Introducing Traditional Chinese Medicine

Traditional Chinese Medicine is an ancient set of practices developed in China over 2,000 years ago that ranges from herbal medicine to various body and mind practices in order to vitalize the energy channels within the body and achieve optimal energy flow to treat and prevent energetic disharmonies, which are the root cause of all sickness. Although Traditional Chinese Medicine has been being used, studied and developed for milenia, only with the recent ease in the exchange of information and the opening of the ancient Eastern culture to the West, it has been widespread and made accessible to everyone all around the world.

In broad strokes, the philosophy of Traditional Chinese Medicine considers the human body a miniature version of a larger, surrounding universe in which two opposing forces, Yin and Yang, are kept in perfect balance creating a positive flow of the Qi, the live energy that flows through the body and maintains the body healthy. Whenever an unbalance occurs, the flow of energy is disrupted affecting the respective organs and/or the mental state and it is in this situations that Traditional Chinese Medicine strives to resume and maintain the initial balance.

Different methods can be used to achieve this balance, two of which are Acupuncture and Tui Na massage.

In Acupuncture, thin pressure needles are inserted into the body at specific points (acupoints), previously selected based in an energetic diagnosis outlines in previous consultations.

In Tui Na massage, like in Acupuncture, the practitioner uses the acupoints and the body's energetic channels, but the acupressure is delivered through massage, to treat or prevent pathology.

Tui Na massage and Acupuncture are used in combination to treat pathologies like: insomnia, anxiety, rhinitis, sinusitis, dysmenorrhea, eczema, herpes zoster, migraines, low back pain, sciatica and stiff neck.
